When you are thinking about buying, selling or renting a property in Jávea, there are hundreds of estate agents you could choose from.
But ultimately, choosing an estate agent is about something much more personal.
It's about trust.
And trust comes from people.
The property industry has changed dramatically since I took over VillaMia in 2011.
Today, buyers can search for property in Jávea from anywhere in the world.
Technology has made the process faster and more convenient.
But buying, selling and renting a home is still an incredibly personal experience.
When you are making a big financial decision, you want to know that the person advising you understands what you're trying to achieve.
You want someone you can pick up the phone to.
I've always believed that estate agency is a people business.
But behind every property transaction are real people with real lives.
A seller may be moving because of retirement.
A family may be relocating to Spain.
Someone may be selling a holiday home after many years of happy memories.
A buyer may have spent years dreaming about owning a home in Jávea.
Every situation is different.
And that's why I don't believe estate agency can ever be completely automated.
Technology can help us, but it can't replace us.
VillaMia is a business, but it is also very personal to me.
I have been running VillaMia for more than 15 years.
Over that time, I've built relationships with hundreds of clients and people in the local community.
Many clients have stayed in touch long after their property transaction was completed.
That's something I'm incredibly proud of.
Because for me, VillaMia has never been about simply putting properties on a website and waiting for enquiries.
It's about building a reputation.
And a reputation is built one relationship at a time.
When you're running a small, independent estate agency, you can't hide behind a large corporate brand.
That can feel quite exposing.
But I actually think it's one of the biggest advantages of being an independent estate agent.
People know who they are dealing with.
If you contact VillaMia, you aren't dealing with a faceless corporation.
You're dealing with a team of real people. And, ultimately, you're dealing with me.
I don't believe you should try to hide your personality when you're running a business.
Of course, professionalism is important.
But being professional doesn't mean being boring.
I want that personality to come through in VillaMia.
You will see it in our social media, in the way we communicate and in the content we create. This is one of the reasons I do everything in-house.
And hopefully, you'll see it in the way we work with our clients.
Because I think people want to know who is behind the business.
There is another reason why personal reputation matters in Spanish estate agency.
The Costa Blanca is a relatively small world.
People talk.
Clients recommend businesses.
Local professionals know each other.
Lawyers, architects, builders, photographers, property managers and other businesses all form part of the network that makes property transactions possible.
Having strong local relationships matters.
Experience matters.
Knowing the area matters.
And knowing the people who live and work here matters.
You can't build that overnight, it takes years.
Now we are at the stage many businesses recommend VillaMia and we are part of the CBBA - Costa Blanca Business Association - the only estate agency in Jávea that is a member.
If you're selling your home, you don't just want someone who knows how to list it.
Because a property isn't just 4 walls:
These are the things that can make someone fall in love with a property, and this is where personality and local knowledge become important.
Social media has also changed the relationship between estate agents and clients.
People don't just see a property anymore.
Many clients walk in the office and say hello to me as they have already read my story and know my face before they even walked in.
For me, that's a good thing.
If someone contacts VillaMia because they've been following us for months, they already have an idea of who we are.
They may have seen our properties.
They may have read our blogs.
They may have watched our videos.
They may have seen me talking about Jávea.
They may feel that they already know us.
That relationship can start long before the first phone call.
One thing I've learned over the years is that personal branding isn't about pretending to be perfect.
It's about being genuine.
People don't expect every property transaction to be completely straightforward.
What matters is how you deal with those situations.
I think clients appreciate honesty.
I'd rather tell someone something they don't necessarily want to hear but need to know than tell them what I think they want to hear.
That is how you build trust.
The VillaMia brand has grown over many years, but the heart of the business has always been people:
That's what makes our independent estate agency special.
We're not just processing transactions, we're building relationships.
But I don't believe people will ever stop wanting to deal with people.
When you're buying, selling or renting a property in Spain, you want someone who knows what they're doing.
But you also want:
And someone who will still be there when the technology stops working!
For me, personal branding isn't about becoming famous.
It's not about having the most followers.
It's not about constantly promoting yourself.
It's about building a reputation that people remember.
It's about being consistent.
It's about showing people who you are and what you stand for.
And it's about making sure that when someone thinks:
"I need an estate agent in Jávea,"
they think of VillaMia.
And hopefully, they think:
"I know Michelle. I trust her. I'll give her a call."
That's the real power of personal branding.
I've spent more than 15 years building VillaMia. I've seen the property market change and technology transform the way we work.
I've seen buyers and sellers become more informed than ever. But one thing hasn't changed:
People still want to deal with people they trust.
VillaMia is a business built on people, relationships and more than 15 years of experience in Jávea.
And I'm very proud to put my name to it.
