Living in Javea is a dream — endless sunshine, warm beaches, and a lifestyle that feels like a permanent holiday. But let’s be honest: sometimes we miss the magic of snow falling gently on your nose.

While snow is rare on the Costa Blanca itself, you don’t have to travel far to enjoy a winter wonderland. Most snow is found in the nearby mountains, easily accessible with short walks or hikes. Families can enjoy building snowmen, snowball fights, or simply soaking in the crisp mountain air. Here’s a guide to mountain areas near Javea where snow is likely in winter:

Nearby Snowy Mountain Spots

Serra de Mariola (near Alcoi and Ibi)

About 1.5–2 hours from Javea, the Serra de Mariola mountains often receive a dusting of snow in winter. While the towns of Alcoi and Ibi may stay snow-free, short walks up the hills and trails reveal beautiful snowy landscapes. It’s perfect for families who want a quick winter escape.

Sierra de Aitana

A little further, Sierra de Aitana, the highest mountain in Alicante province, frequently gets snow. Accessible trails and viewpoints make it easy to enjoy snow without needing to climb too far. The views of the Costa Blanca from the snowy peaks are breathtaking!

Sierra Calderona (near Valencia)

Roughly 2–2.5 hours from Javea, the Sierra Calderona mountains near Valencia city occasionally get snow in winter. Trails here are perfect for short walks and snow play while enjoying panoramic views of the Valencian countryside.

Further Afield

Sierra de Espuña (Murcia)

For a bigger adventure, Sierra de Espuña in Murcia (around 2– 3 hours from Javea) often has more reliable snow. Families and outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy snowy landscapes and scenic hikes.

Teruel – Valdelinares and Javalambre

If you’re up for a longer drive (around 3 - 4 hours), the province of Teruel is a must for snow lovers. It’s home to well-known ski stations like Valdelinares and Javalambre, offering snowy slopes, winter sports, and reliable snow coverage. Perfect for a weekend getaway with the family or a ski trip!

Practical Tips for Your Snow Day Out

  • Bring snow chains – Mountain roads can get slippery, and it’s better to be safe than sorry.
  • Dress warmly – Layer up with gloves, hats, and waterproof boots.
  • Expect traffic – Many families head to the snow at the same time. Leave early for the best snow conditions and avoid congestion.
  • Snow is in the mountains, not towns – You’ll need to walk a little to reach the best snowy spots.
