The New Year in Jávea began in the very best way possible on 1st January 2026, with another hugely successful Charity Swim, bringing together locals, businesses, friends and families for an unforgettable morning by the sea.
This year’s turnout was nothing short of incredible. With much kinder weather than last year, the beach was full of colour, laughter and an impressive selection of wacky costumes — although the sea temperature still delivered plenty of screams once everyone took the plunge!
Michelle Hughes, owner of VíllaMía, was delighted to take part in the swim, joined by a fantastic group of people who made the day even more special. Among those braving the cold water were VíllaMía clients Michael and Emma Blythe, Michelle’s son Ethan Hughes, and his friends Jason and Steve from The Pub in the Park.
It was a brilliant example of how the Jávea community comes together — clients becoming friends, families supporting each other, and local businesses getting involved for a great cause.
The atmosphere on the beach was electric, with joy, encouragement and plenty of good humour all round. The event even attracted the attention of APUNT Media (Spanish TV), who came down to film and interview some of the brave swimmers, helping to spread the message of community spirit even further.
Thanks to the generosity of everyone involved, €1,736 has already been counted from the beach collection (notes) alone, alongside part of the sponsored swimmers’ donations. With a mountain of coins still being carefully counted from the beach buckets, bar swear jar and local shop collection pots, the final total will be announced very soon.
A huge thank you goes out to everyone who donated, sponsored, supported or jumped into the sea, as well as the photographers who captured the day so beautifully and helped share it with those who couldn’t attend.
And of course, enormous credit to the organisers Steve and Chrissie (Lancashire Bruja) for once again putting together such a joyful and meaningful event to start the year.
From all of us at VíllaMía, we’re proud to be part of a community that shows such generosity, courage and togetherness — even when the water is freezing!
Here’s to a positive, connected and community-driven 2026!
