Easter, or Semana Santa, is one of the most important and atmospheric times of year in Spain, and April is when the Costa Blanca truly comes to life. In towns across Spain the streets fill with processions that date back centuries. Alongside the processions, there is also a lighter, more relaxed side to Easter. Families gather for long lunches, bakeries fill their windows with seasonal treats like monas de Pascua, and the beaches begin to buzz again as visitors arrive for the holiday period. It marks the unofficial start of the spring season, with restaurants, markets and coastal promenades becoming lively once more.

With Easter marking the start of the high season in Jávea, the Town Hall is already looking ahead to ways of improving the management of one of its most popular natural spots, Cala Granadella. Councillor for Citizen Security and Beaches, Juan Ortolà, recently met with the president of the Granadella Residents’ Association, Roland Quesada, to discuss measures aimed at balancing the needs of residents with the expected increase in visitors.
The meeting focused on several key areas including signage, road markings, surveillance, and fire prevention. Granadella’s unique environmental value, combined with its limited access and high visitor numbers, means careful planning is essential, especially as the area begins to fill up over Easter and into the summer months.
Jávea’s historic centre will once again come alive during Holy Week with the return of its much-loved Craft Fair, now celebrating its 41st edition. One of the most emblematic events in the Marina Alta, this traditional fair will take place from 3rd to 6th April and promises to fill the old town with colour, creativity, and atmosphere.
This year, 75 stalls will line the streets, offering handmade goods, artisan products, and a wide variety of local crafts. Alongside the shopping, visitors can enjoy a full programme of cultural and participatory activities, making it a lively and family-friendly highlight of the Easter calendar.
April is a wonderful month for strawberries, loquats, and early stone fruits, all full of flavour and sweetness. You will also find broad beans, asparagus, peas, and artichokes at their best, alongside leafy greens and fresh herbs. It is a time for lighter dishes, simple salads, and meals that celebrate the freshness of spring. Many restaurants begin to update their menus to reflect the season, making it a great time to enjoy local cuisine.
