Why we LOVE February on the Costa Blanca

February is the month of love, and what better way to celebrate than by embracing everything we adore about life on the Costa Blanca? As winter lingers in many other parts of Europe, here we are treated to a mild Mediterranean climate, blue skies, and the first signs of Spring. It’s the perfect time to enjoy the quieter side of the region, soak in breathtaking views, and indulge in the best of local culture and cuisine.

The weather in February is one of the reasons so many people fall in love with the Costa Blanca. With daytime temperatures averaging around 17°C and plenty of sunshine, it’s ideal for long walks along the beach, hikes through the mountains, or simply enjoying a morning coffee outside without being wrapped up in layers. Evenings can be cool, but the crisp air and stunning sunsets make them all the more romantic. The almond trees are in full bloom this month, dotting the valleys and hillsides with delicate pink and white blossoms, creating a picture-perfect landscape.

With love from VillaMia to you

Food lovers have plenty to celebrate in February. Seasonal ingredients bring fresh flavours to the table, with citrus fruits such as oranges and lemons at their best, adding a burst of sunshine to every dish. Artichokes, a staple in Mediterranean cooking, are in peak season and can be found on menus across the region, whether grilled, stuffed, or in a hearty stew. It’s also the perfect time to enjoy calçots, a type of tender spring onion that is grilled over an open flame and dipped into a rich romesco sauce—a true delicacy and a reason to gather with friends and family.

Children's carnival in Jávea Spain

February is also filled with celebrations, with the highlight being Carnival. While places like Cádiz and Tenerife are famous for their grand parades, the Costa Blanca also embraces the spirit of Carnival with smaller yet vibrant festivities. Expect lively processions, colourful costumes, and plenty of music and dancing in towns across the region. It’s a wonderful time to experience the joyous atmosphere and community spirit that makes life here so special. In Teulada, the Sant Blai Festival offers another unique local tradition, with religious processions, market stalls, and traditional food bringing the town to life.

For those thinking about property, February is an excellent time to explore the market. With the festive season behind us and Spring just around the corner, many sellers are listing their homes, making it a great opportunity for buyers to find their dream home in the sun. The demand for coastal properties remains strong, particularly in sought-after locations like Jávea, Moraira, and Calpe, where buyers are drawn to the relaxed lifestyle and year-round appeal. Whether you’re looking for a permanent move, a holiday home, or an investment property, now is the time to start your search.

There are so many reasons to love the Costa Blanca in February. From stunning landscapes and delicious food to lively fiestas and exciting opportunities in the property market, it’s a month that offers something special to everyone. Whether you’re already here enjoying the lifestyle or dreaming of making the move, we hope you find plenty of reasons to fall in love with this beautiful part of the world.

New! Co-Ownership Scheme

Co-ownership scheme Jávea

Another reason to love the Costa Blanca is the exciting new opportunities in property ownership. If you've been dreaming of owning a luxurious villa in Jávea but don't want the full cost or year-round commitment, co-ownership could be the perfect solution. This innovative approach allows you to purchase a share of a stunning property, granting you exclusive use for six weeks per year. Unlike timeshares, co-ownership is real property ownership, giving you the freedom to sell or rent your share if your circumstances change.

It's a fantastic option for those who want to enjoy the benefits of a holiday home in one of Spain's most desirable locations without the responsibilities of full-time ownership. VillaMia recently hosted an open house to showcase this concept, and we’d like to extend our thanks to everyone who attended and supported the event. The feedback has been incredible, with many buyers excited by the prospect of owning a slice of paradise without the full financial burden.

If you'd like to learn more about this unique way of owning property in Jávea, get in touch with us. We’d be happy to explain how it works and help you find the perfect co-ownership opportunity.

Jávea Becomes a Cultural Epicentre

Conxa Planells

Jávea is set to become a vibrant hub for art and culture with the launch of 3 captivating exhibitions that will bring fresh artistic talent to the forefront. From January 31st to March 9th, the town will play host to a series of exhibitions, each offering a unique perspective across different artistic disciplines.

One of the highlights will take place at the Soler Blasco Archaeological and Ethnological Museum, where renowned artist Conxa Planells will showcase her latest works. Set within this historic venue, the exhibition will provide a fascinating contrast between contemporary artistic expression and the rich cultural heritage of Jávea. Visitors can expect a collection filled with creativity and emotion, promising an immersive experience that bridges the past with the present.

This new cultural initiative not only enriches the artistic scene in Jávea but also offers residents and visitors the chance to explore the dynamic relationship between history and modern creativity. Whether you're an art lover or simply curious about local talent, these exhibitions provide a wonderful opportunity to experience the diverse artistic landscape of the Costa Blanca.

Calcots

Calçots are a Catalan winter treat, best enjoyed from late November to early April. These sweet, tender onions are grown using a traditional method that encourages their long white stems. Originating in Valls, Tarragona, the calçotada — a lively feast dedicated to grilling and eating calçots — has become a beloved tradition. Grilled over an open flame, calçots develop a smoky flavour while staying soft and sweet inside. They’re eaten by peeling away the charred outer layer and dipping them in salsa romesco or salvitxada, made with roasted tomatoes, almonds, and garlic.

More than just a meal, a calçotada is a social event, often paired with grilled meats, Catalan sausages, and local wine. If you’re in the Costa Blanca this winter, be sure to try this delicious seasonal speciality!
